In this episode of Sessions, we speak with revered tattoo legend Freddy Negrete about how the Chicano tattoo style was developed in the California prison system while he works on a gorgeous Memento Mori portrait of a woman and skull.

Freddy “Wiki”: Currently working out of Shamrock Tattoo on the famed Sunset Strip of West Hollywood, Freddy Negrete is a tattoo legend deeply revered for his pioneering efforts behind Chicano tattooing. From gang life and prison, to tattoo royalty, he’s a frequent VIP guest at tattoo conventions around the globe, has appeared as a judge on the hit TV show Inkmaster, and has even worked as a tattoo advisor on the set of films like Batman Forever, Con Air, and Blade. His dedication to perfecting, preserving, and developing the cultural, as well as artistic, aspects of Chicano tattooing, makes him an integral part of tattoo history.

Musink: Musink was created in 2007, by one of our favorite drummers of all time: Travis Barker. An awesome festival where music and art collide, the event blends a love of punk rock, tattoo art, low riders, hot babes, good food and more. Each year, Travis brings together heavy hitters across the industries to create an experience that is like nothing else. Spanning three days on the Southern Coast of California, the festival includes hundreds of incredible tattoo artists, including some Tattoodo Ambassadors, as well as several of top musicians, and even lowrider car show brought to you by Travis Barker’s Famous Stars and Straps.
