In this episode of Sessions, Lewisink continues work on a geometric dotwork and blackwork sleeve for a returning client.
Known for creating geometric dotwork and blackwork, Lewisink’s main interest in tattooing is transforming the body into a piece of kinetic art. Looking through his incredible oeuvre of pieces, one will notice that each tattoo seems to swirl with movement. Each geometric tattoo Lewisink puts onto a body often looks much like an optical illusion. But this is why he is dedicated to larger works such as bodysuits, sleeves, and the like. With a larger canvas, he’s able to create massive geometric blackwork tattoos that become a living art piece.
In this episode of Sessions filmed at the highly respected London Tattoo Convention, Lewisink talks about how his family has been incredibly supportive over the years, including his mother who has the first tattoo he ever put on real skin. But he also makes sure to let people know how honored he is by giving him such artistic freedom and trust. He says, “This relationship with people is very interesting and I’m very grateful I have the most awesome customers. That’s what keeps me tattooing.” Based out of Paris, Lewisink has a private studio where he is devoted to giving each of his tattoo collectors a very special experience where they feel at peace and at ease.
Of course, creating geometric blackwork tattoos of this nature isn’t easy, and Lewisink has a few different ways that he makes sure his focus is right where it needs to be for each piece. While meditation is certainly something that he likes to do during his downtime, he also practices mindfulness while tattooing so that each dot, each line, and each touch of ink is high-quality work that the client will love for years to come.
