In this Tattoodo X Zalando collaboration, tattoo artist Toya talks about how she constantly evolves her style to reach greater heights of self-expression.
Known for her unique take on Traditional classics, we met up with Toya to talk about how she became a tattooer. At first she gleaned inspiration from iconic old school tattooers like Amund Dietzel who first hit fame in 1907, but soon Toya was evolving her work to reflect more of herself. Now, her creations have come to encompass the vast range of interests, insights, and visual influences that Toya carries with her, and finds, wherever she goes.
Perhaps what also makes Toya such an integral part of the tattoo community is her powerhouse perspective full of positivity and authenticity. She mentions that many people didn’t think she “worthy” of becoming what she is now, but she turned those negative opinions down and came out strong. Her natural progression as a stellar tattooer is a perfect example of resilience, hard work, and freedom to embrace the truest self possible.
Part of the Tattoodo X Zalando collaboration, Toya was one of four creatives to represent the meaning of Free to Be: a philosophy that celebrates authentic living to the utmost…whatever that may mean for them, or for you.
