Nashville flow-pop artist danny G releases the first single from his forthcoming EP, Quarantine Mixtape, slated to drop at the end of May. A song about being willing to take a chance, “came through” poses the subjunctive question, “What if?”

Every Monday during the month of May, danny G will release another track from the EP via IG live stream, providing details about the song’s inspiration, performing the track live, while allowing listeners to donate to the Recording Academy’s MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. Each track will then be released the following Thursday.

Following “came through,” danny g will release “best friend” on May 14, and “lucky” on May 21, with the EP as a whole available May 28.

Describing his sound as “flow-pop,” a blend of pop and rap flavors awakened by the music of G-Eazy and early Mac Miller, danny G cites influences such as Charlie Puth, Dave East, and YBN Cordae. Last year, after graduating from college, danny g made big waves, working with Xuitcasecity, Cam Meekins, and Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes.

“came through” opens on suave trumpets full of jazz-flavored R&B colors topped by introductory scatting-like vocals. As the melody takes shape, a tasty emo-trap beat delivers a contagious rhythm, while the smooth trumpet oozes sensuous tones. A gentle, gleaming guitar infuses the music with platinum-lite accents.

danny G’s velvety baritone rapping flow, akin to Barry White, only silkier and more elegant, saturates the lyrics with creamy textures, as radiant backing harmonies give the tune soft-serve R&B blushes.

“What if you came through, what if I hold you / What if you loved me, and all of my friends too.”

The lyrics propose taking her out for dinner, followed by ice cream, i.e. going on a real date despite the current situation produced by the pandemic and lockdowns. In other words, it’s a delicious musical ode to connecting with others in person and gambling on romance.

On “came through,” danny G amalgamates tantalizing flavors of cool R&B, pop, and trap into an infectious cashmere tune, chock-full of low-slung seduction.
