People have been getting hand-poked tattoos for thousands of years. It’s only in the last hundred years (roughly) that tattoo machines have been in use, but in that time they have become the norm. When Gossamer started tattooing they wanted to connect to their ancestry, so they skipped the machine and learned to hand-poke tattoos. There are many subtle differences between machine tattoos and hand-poked tattoos, both for the client and the artist, and Gossamer walks us through all of it in this episode of Dos & Don’ts.
